Tratiors

This year I was intoduced to the TV series Traitors, and I feel like there are a lot of deeper themes that are within the show then just entertainment. It's actually a strategy based game, but the way that the players interact truly does reflect real world social dynamics. One thing that really stood out to me is how gender norms play a huge role on how players are percived. When women speak up at the round table or like question others they are often labeled as “too emotional” or suspicious. The last episode I watched, people were suspicios of a girl who did not talk a lot, who usally does. On the other hand, men who act in the same way are usually praised for being stratigic. This double standard affects who gains influence and who gets targeted early in the game. It feels like women have to constantly monitor how they speak and act just to avoid drawing attention to themselves.

High Potential

Image
In class, we talked about women leading in TV shows to check out, and I want to expand on the show High Potential. High Potential is a show with a woman lead, and it's the perfect mix of crime and romance. We see Morgan Gillory, a single mom who has three kids. There is a father figure for two of her kids who tend to the youngest, a boy and a girl, and Morgan's oldest teen's dad went missing.  Morgan has a high IQ, so when she looks at something, she can immediately figure something out, which makes her good at solving crimes. One night when she was working as a cleaning lady at the police station,n she bumped into a crime board and instantly solved the crime, which caused her recruitment to work with the Police as a consultant with the agreement that they would search for her daughter's father, who had disappeared.  I think this is one of the only series I've been able to watch that has been entertaining. I don't have much time to watch TV, but when I do, I lov...

The Strength & Resilience of Naomi Osaka

Image
Just last week at the Australian opening tennis match, tennis player, Naomi Osaka was caught in between of a slight spat with her opponent, Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea. Whilst the two were in the middle of their game, Cirstea became visibly irritated over Osaka’s frequent “come ons” she would do in between serves to hype herself up, causing her to alert the umpire of Osaka’s apparent “behavior.” During an in court interview, Osaka expressed her apologies for causing such a stir in her opponent and again apologized for her behavior. Even when Osaka was victorious in the match, Cirstea made sure to project her frustrations onto Osaka in a “frost handshake.” Both women claim they have no drama among each other, and probably emotions were running high that day due to long travel, but there’s a consistent pattern when it comes to black woman existing in sports. Especially a competitive, high-strong sport like tennis where emotions are already running high and are usua...

The circle

Image
In the show The Circle, contestants are only allowed to interact with each other through profiles, and they could either be catfishing the other person or telling the truth. No one finds out until the very end of the show whether the person was lying to them and faking an identity. This show focuses on how your identity is somewhat strategic in a sense, and how the players rely on the stereotypes of other races, classes, and other things. They try to gain trust and friendships with one another. This show also talks about how social media is taking over the culture of dating and talking to someone. They focus on what people look like rather than their personality. As well as the show, sometimes their communication is forced, meaning that it is not how they originally speak to someone; they are just trying to get the other person to like them without knowing their true identity. Finally, this show shows how platforms can be a negative place and how it makes people insecure, and how ...

911 show

Image
911 is a series shown on Hulu about firehouse 118. I recently just started watching this show about a month ago as it was recommended to me and I have been hooked since. The show does a good job representing things we do not always see on television shows including but not limited to biracial relationships, disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, black lesbian women in leading roles, LGBTQ+ relationships, etc. In addition, the show touches on issues including PTSD, substance abuse, loss, suicide, post-partum depression, etc.  I think the show does a good job of trying to break the stigma around these topics in a light hearted but meaningful way.

Can I See More of Me?!- Selena Gambrell

Image
For my blog today, I'm bringing awareness to the fact that I'm an African American girl, and my favorite thing to do is watch older television. And I know that most of the shows I've watched at the time they came out, DEI hiring was the bare minimum, for example, my favorite shows I've watched were big and broke major barriers, such as:  Buffy the Vampire Slayer ( 1997-2003 )(starring Sarah Michelle Gellar , who is a white woman), but Buffy was big because of how the lead was a woman fighting a "big bad," and it showed a strong girl empowered. But the downfall of Buffy was that where was the DEI? oh actually, I'm wrong. Willow (played by Alyson Hannigan , another white woman) later started a big uproar because she came out as a lesbian after the prior seasons. She dated Oz (male), and it was super big in 2001. But did we have a black recurring character? Yup, for a little while, she was the second slayer awoken after Buffy had been dead for a couple of m...

When They See Us

When They See Us is a mini series on Netflix that brings the audience through the Central Park 5 case. This was a massive case back in the late 80s/early 90s where 5 young black and hispanic boys were wrongfully convicted for the rape and intense beating of a woman jogging through Central Park. This whole case focuses on the fact that these boys were coerced into giving false confessions. The investigators were able to craft a story where the boys all told how the other boys played a part into the crime. There was no trace evidence at the scene of the crime that would prove these boys guilty. They all ended up serving significant amounts of time in prison due to this. The true perpetrator eventually came out in the 2000s confessing to the crime, and DNA evidence could prove his guilt.  Since this case was so high profile and was widely covered by the media, it brought a lot of attention to the corrupt criminal justice system and how cases such as these can be racially motivat...

Dear Zoe

Image
Dear Zoe, is a film adaptation of the novel by the same name that features Sadie Sink portraying the role of Tess DeNunzio and her life after the sudden loss of her little sister. This film shows how Tess struggles with her mental health after her sister's death, and even highlights her battle with questions of "What could I have done different?" It showcases different formations of harmful and even uncomfortable coping methods in a way that intentionally makes the watcher feel uneasy. It shows that grief isn't meant to be pretty, we see her skipping school, drinking, disobeying her parents, rebelling, and completely changing as an individual to try and cope with this loss. I think the representation of her internal battle is well-established and really gets into the uncomfortable nitty-gritty which is uncommon when it comes to shows portraying mental health battles. While I don't think the movie is perfect, it is flawed in its own way, I think the way it encaps...

Thirteen Reasons Why

Image
Thirteen reasons why is a Netflix original that sparked a lot of conversation when it first came out because of the issue covered such as mental health, bullying, sexual assault, and the pressures teens face because of social media. When it was first released it quickly became significant and popular especially with young audiences because it pushed topics that were often ignored. The show influenced how television portrays high school life by showing that it is more emotionally complex than carefree and easy. This challenged the image seen in a lot of other high school shows. It also highlighted the role of social media, rumors, and peers when shaping identity and reputation. While the series was controversial I loved it and i feel like it really made people think about what issues should be portrayed on the screen. this show and since left a lasting mark by challenging how teen stories are told and encouraged conversations about responsibility, empathy, and awareness.

Molly Malone statue Dublin, Ireland & Cristiano Ronaldo statue Funchal, Portugal

Image
The Molly Malone statue (shown above) was unveiled in 1988. Since being unveiled, the statue has faced much backlash. As you can see the statue's breast are discolored, due to the frequent groping by tourists. The idea that groping the statue's breast brings good luck was made up by tourists groups. Singer, song writer, and activist, Tilly Cripwell, led a campaign protesting the violation of the statue. Her argument stats that this "tradition" objectifies the historical significance of Molly Malone. Cripwell's efforts did cause change. In May of 2025 the Dublin City Council initiated a system to educate tourists and prevent them from touching the statue. The statue will also be repainted, and there is talk about rising the statue higher to prevent individuals from touching it.  The Cristiano Ronaldo statue (shown above) was unveiled in 2014. While rise of media attention of the backlash from the Molly Malone statue, the Cristiano Ronaldo statue also started to su...

I'm choosing to focus on the Jimmy Kimmel situation from a few months back. This situation was an emotional roller coaster. It all happened in late 2025 when ABC suspended Kimmel for just about a week. He was suspended after he made some controversial jokes following the death of the political figure Charlie Kirk. There was outrage, including some TV stations that refused to air his show after his suspension ended. This also resulted in a boiling point in his feud with President Donald Trump. Trump kept calling for Kimmel to be fired, and Kimmel responded with "I'll go when you go." In the more recent months things have begun to calm down, and Kimmel signed a contract extension through May 2027. Many speculate this will be his final run and he will then retire from late night TV. The reason I wanted to talk about this is because of how much I despise cancel culture. While yes Jimmy Kimmel should not have made jokes about someone's death, this cancel culture gets ...

Carsie Blanton I have come to like a music artist, Carsie Blanton. She is an American singer/songwriter that performs a mix of folk, jazz, and pop-punk music. Most of her music has a feminist perspective. Her music has strong social and political influences. That being said, she's a socialist and advocates for the LGBTQ+ community. I like her individuality, the funness she brings to her performances. Her style reminds me of Joni Mitchell and Phoebe Snow, political/socialist musicians from the seventies, with a newer, more provocative sound. Carsie performs throughout the US and internationally. I had the opportunity to see Carsie do an amazing performance last Spring at the Le Poisson Rouge in NYC.  Be Good ~  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAFmxnJA_OQ Another War ~  https://www.tiktok.com/@carsieblantonmusic/video/7516486205551217933

Cancel Culture

For this week's post, I will be talking about cancel culture and more specifically the presence of cancel culture in the influencer realm . To be canceled online is to hideaway for 6 months to a year, not long enough to lose monetization on your platforms, make a short form video or instagram story apology , take no accountablity, lose majority of your following, and come back like nothing happened. Being cancelled constitues having done something morally wrong enough for the internet to run you off every platform in hopes of silencing you. Cancel culture is not real, it is an effect of one's actions that happen to be on the forefront of their existence ie. Tyra Banks for ANTM , Miranda Sings for grooming minors and sharing pornography in group chats with minors, James Charles for repeated instances of communicating with minors, Chris Brown for his past of sexual and domestic abuse, Drake Bell for having relations with a minor, Elen Degenerous for being mean to her empl...

Baddies

The show baddies is so controversial. Baddies is a show to build up your fame for booking and for lots of people to see you, but do you wanna be seen so bad for fame, you pick to fight and have small arguments. Don't get me wrong the fighting and arguments is part of the show because it's supposed to be like bad girls club and that's what it was, but it seemed more natural not so fake like baddies. Fania is genuine, nice, and pretty, but she was a cop before baddies and quit to stay on baddies then we have Lex who was a basketball player and she even said she was aspired to be on the show and of course got on because at the auditions she fought and fought. It's like I understand that some way you can make more money, but so many people quit their jobs to audition and don't even make it or quit their old lives for this show which is so draining and sad sometimes the way they jump and beat on each just gets to a point and it should be more inspiring positively.  Plea...

Nate from Euphoria

I have been rewatching Euphoria in preparation for the new season coming out in April. The character Nate really has sparked my interest this past time. He is a character that at least in my opinion, you start to almost feel bad for and sympathize with. The show does a great job at making you side with him and almost forget that he really just is not a good person. He has countless moments in the show where he treats women terribly, makes comments about them, and overall just acts in gross ways. I think this can translate into real life because of how overlooked people's behaviors can be. They may have a bad past, or have done some other good things, causing others to justify their behaviors.

Wicked Press Tour Is Getting "Heated"

Image
Recently, the show Heated Rivalry has gained tons of attention for its rule breaking storytelling and 'heated' scenes between actors Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie. Both performers have experience a catapult into fame as a result of the shows success. Their press tour has been broadcasted across every platform you could think of, and there's no denying the amount of attention and buzz they are creating. An article I found by poprant analyzes the differences in how audiences have responded to the relationship and media display between Hudson and Connor to that of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo from Wicked. The article discusses concerns around queerbaiting and double standards when it comes to the behaviors seen between the Heated Rivalry co-stars, focusing in on how the key difference is simply gender. Specifically, Shivani Negi, the writer of the article, compares how the closeness displayed between Ariana and Cynthia has been labeled as 'weird' or 'creepy...

r6

Image
Rainbow 6 Siege is a video game that me and my friends have been playing on and off for the past 7-8 years with each other. Which is weird because the game it self is not very good anymore as the developers of the game seem to not care that much anymore about the game. The game has never been perfect though as the game can never seem to get everything right, or once the game is finally doing good and the community is enjoying the game there is a unnecessary update that just sets the game back causing people to stop playing for a while. After enough time though for some reason people start playing the game again, but it’s not long before the cycle repeats and people stop playing again. Me and my friends have just recently started playing again, but who knows how long this cycle will last.

People We Meet On Vacation

Image
People We Meet on Vacation  was already a favorite for a lot of readers and my self because of its slow-burn romance and emotional depth, so the movie had big shoes to fill. While the film is fun and easy to watch, it’s definitely pretty different from the book. In the novel, we get so much insight into Poppy and Alex’s thoughts, which makes their relationship feel deeper and more meaningful. The movie doesn’t have that same inner dialogue, so some emotional moments feel rushed or less intense. The timeline is also more condensed, which takes away from the slow build that made the book so special. That said, the movie does a great job bringing the travel scenes to life and making each destination feel exciting and romantic. Overall, the movie is enjoyable, but the book still wins when it comes to emotional connection and storytelling.  For fans of the novel, the differences make it clear why the book continues to resonate more strongly than the film.

How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days

Image
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorite rom-coms that have been made. It is an early 2000s about two really ambitious people who turn dating into a competition. Andie who is the woman main character is writing a article that tests if you can lose a guy in 10 days. She does all the things women do wrong in a relationship to try and drive him away. Ben who is the male main character is trying to prove that he can make any woman fall in love with him. This movie is a big deal to pop culture because it helped define the rom-com boom of the era and cemented Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey as genre icons. It captured a generational anxiety about dating as a strategy rather than sincerity. This is an idea that feels more relevant in this time of dating due to the dating apps.

Smurfette Principle

Image
Hello! In class, I talked about the Smurfette Principle, but I wanted to explain it more. The Smurfette Principle is when a group of characters is mostly male, and there is only one female. She is usually just “the girl” and does not get much personality or her own story. The name comes from Smurfette in The Smurfs, who was the only female among all the male Smurfs. This happens in many shows and movies. For example, in The Lord of the Rings, most characters on the quest are male, and only a few are female. In the original Star Wars trilogy, Leia is the only main female in a mostly male cast. Even in kids' shows like Teen Titans, there is usually one female hero in a team of boys. The problem with the Smurfette Principle is that it makes male characters seem normal, while female characters feel like side characters. The one girl is often shown as caring, pretty, or focused on romance instead of having her own adventures or flaws. Knowing about this principle helps us notice whe...

Dating Culture In The Media

This week for my blog I decided to talk about something our generation has made more acceptable, which is the presence of dating culture online . More specifically I want to talk about online relationships , ghosting , as well as hard and soft launches . When I was younger and I got my first phone my mom was so adamant on not talking to people I didn't know because it could be fake and dangerous. Now we are hearing stories about young girls being in full blown relationships with miles in between them. Sometimes they are harmless however  sometimes the people you think you are talking to online are not who they really are and they can have bad intentions. With ghosting, everyone knows how it feels and I almost feel as if it was easier to understand and deal with in real life before it was considered a common pop culture term. When you hear someone is getting ghosted you immediately think something bad or awkward happened to make one of the parties stop talking to the other as...

British Museum Roman Empire

Last Thursday in my Art History class, the professor briefly mentioned a scandal involving the British Museum back in 2024. In an attempt to do an exhibition, they advertised it in a very controversial way. They reposted a TikTok telling women to use the exhibition as a way to get a date. They instructed women to look confused and walk around so they would get a man or a date. Many did not take kindly to this, and I especially don't after hearing about it. I find it extremely uncomfortable that, in a way to promote art and history, they fully support women looking dumb just to get a guy. It supports harmful stereotypes and thoughts of women as just dumb and not interested in history, and makes it seem like art history is a "masculine" or male-centered interest. I am very interested in art history, and I really dislike this approach to talking to women or telling people to engage with history. It just is not a good look, and it dampens how people think of women.

"Superstore" taking a stand

Image
Something that I  really enjoy, and I feel like should gain more appreciation, is the show "Superstore". Superstore is an NBC tv show that ran from 2015 to 2021, that focused on a group of employees who worked at a large big box store called "Cloud 9". Though the show was very humorous and light hearted, it also did a very good job at targeting and highlighting real world issues such as ICE and immigration, worker's rights, LGBTQ visibility and representation, sexism, and more. The main example that I would like to highlight is their representation of immigration. In one of the episodes, one of the employees named Mateo discovers that he is  undocumented. This later becomes an issue when corporate catches wind of talk of a union, so they send in ICE to show the employees the amount of control that they have over them.  With many of his coworkers being aware of his illegal status, they all jump into action to do what they can to attempt to protect him from ICE. ...

Mean Girls

Image
The movie mean girls not only is just a funny movie but also represents how teen life can be shaped by trends, popularity, and social expectations. This movie mostly focuses on Highschool clicks (the plastics) who represent how the media and society define what is considered to be, cool, important, and attractive. Fashion and social rules play a huge part in the characters' lives showing how pop culture can affect one's identity. The burn book can be seen as a symbol of gossip culture and how rumors and social judgment can spread quickly which is very similar to modern day media. The movie also highlights how people try and fit in by copying what is considered to be popular even when it goes against their values. By exaggerating these behaviors Mean Girls make pop culture easy to recognize and criticize. Overall the move shapes teen relationships, self image, and power dynamics in a way that is relatable and also still relevant today

All the Bright Places

Image
This is one of my comfort movies. Everything about it is just so perfect and I cry to it every time. The way Finch helped Violet out of her dark spot while he was going through it himself to the point where he wasn't going to graduate and lost himself, taking life as a joke. Finch was such in a dark spot that by the time Violet finally started to catch feelings and notice how he gets and tries to figure him out, but it was just too late. I wish we'd know more about Finch in the movie, but others said that the book goes in depth about Finch and his mental health and what he went through. I love how genuine the movie was although it was a little cringe, but the bond they had in the movie starting off as friends with healing and enjoying the small things in life when taking on that journey for their class project. Their friendship and leading on just was them helping each other cope with pain, loss and the biggest was to find a real meaning in life. This movie perfectly shows how...

UDY (catching cheaters on YouTube)

Image
This may be embarrassing, but for years I've been obsessed with watching UDY who makes videos to catch cheaters. Although these videos often look fake, for some reason they’re just funny to watch and keep me entertained when I'm bored. I feel like, out of all the YouTubers, UDY’s videos look more real compared to others, which is why I prefer watching him. Even if these videos are fake, I find it interesting how many videos UDY has and the fact that he could easily come up with so many scenarios involving people’s relationships, suspicious of cheating, and ways to catch their partner. That’s crazy to me because if it is fake, it’s 10x more planned. If these videos are real, it’s still crazy how much time goes into planning them and how casually some people genuinely cheat on their partners. Since it seems so casual, it can come across as fake, but I don’t think people consider that situations like this can actually be someone’s real life. One thing UDY does differently is cove...

The Double Standard of Being a Parent

A topic we discussed in class that stuck with me was the double standard between men and women when it comes to being parents. Society is quick to praise fathers for doing basic parenting tasks, while mothers are expected to do the same things without recognition. The show I've been obsessed with, Desperate Housewives, shows this clearly through characters Lynette and Tom Scavo. When Tom loses his job, Lynette has to step up and become the main provider for their family. Her new job requires long hours and late nights, but instead of being praised she is so quickly judged. She is labeled an absentee mom and criticized for not being home enough, even though she is working for the sake of her children. What makes this even more frustrating is that when Tom worked late nights before he was seen as a hard worker and a good, loving father. No one questioned his parenting or commitment to his family. Lynette is still caring, involved, and overwhelmed, but her effort is treated as normal...

Baddies USA (Week 1)

Something in pop culture that has had me in a chokehold but is also seen as an embarrassment is Baddies on Zeus Network . Baddies is basically a more current version of Bad Girls Club . When I was younger my mom absolutely loved watching BGC and I used to watch it with her. However, this show is extremely controversial to both those who watch and those who just know about it. For example, there is a cast member named Summer. She comes up with some of the most ignorant things a person could EVER say. For example, sooooo many people do not like her because during an altercation with another castmate Summer had told her she looked like Emmett Till, anyone with any common decency would NEVER speak on someone like that. Most people thought Zeus CEOs and production would have taken her off for such an unsympathetic comment but there was hardly any repercussions for her. There is also another cast mate on this season of Baddies that is Puerto Rican but looks very white, and she openly s...

Blog #2 The Long Walk

I chose The Long Walk to talk about this week for an insane amount of reason, not just being that I cried like a baby in the theatre when it was over. This movie is a very powerful film because it uses this super slow story to expose how oppression is prevalent in everyday life. Rather than there being super obvious villains or like having only one like MAIN scene, this movie has a subtle approach to how system s of power shape people choices and futures over time. With that being said, this makes the movie that much more realistic. This movie connects someone's personal suffering to very large political forces. The characters aren't struggling just because of things within their own life, but because they live in this system that limits mobility, safety, and opportunities. The key themes like poverty, loss, and violence, were chosen very delicately. These key points are the results of political decisions that value certain lives over others; a system parallel we can see today....

Sydney Sweeney x American Eagle 2025 ad

Image
As someone who has grown up shopping at American Eagle, I was highly disappointed when this ad came out, partnering with Sydney Sweeney in an effort to promote jeans. American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney faced backlash due to the "hidden" message in the advertisement. In this ad, the slogan is "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," but as the ad continues, Sweeney discusses how traits are passed down through generations, such as hair and eye color. This changed the perspective from "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans" to "Sydney Sweeney has great genes". Sweeney is a white woman with blond hair and blue eyes. Using a play on words and inferring the slogan is "Sydney Sweeney has great genes" creates the interpretation that these genetic traits of blond hair, blue eyes, and white skin are superior to other genetic traits. This is extremely underrepresenting a large proportion of the population while indicating that minorities are inferior to white w...

Yes, we are human too.

Image
There's something worth noting the similar language used in articles that highlighted on Angela Basset's reaction to losing to Jamie Lee Curtis during the 2023 Oscars for best supporting actress that magnified on Basset's facial expressions, how Basset didn't applaud for Curtis, or how she looked "unimpressed." Fast forward to the 2026 award season where a similar pattern is being noticed when Michael B. Jordan lost the award to Timothee Chalamet for best lead actor at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards. Both Jordan and Basset shared the screen with one another in Ryan Coogler's 2018 superhero film, Black Panther , and ironically both of them are experiencing similar social media treatment that elaborates on their facial expressions when they lost their respective awards. Celebrities are allowed to be human and show emotion, but there seems to be a double standard of the extent of the emotion black artists are allowed to experience, especially when they lose...

The Pink Lens

Image
In the movie Barbie , released in the summer of 2023, it depicts a world full of bright pink colors, which at first seems appealing, especially to young girls and women. But the movie shows that this pink world also represents pressure on women to look perfect, act happy, and follow strict rules about how they "should" behave. Barbie is beautiful, confident, and popular, yet she still faces limitations on what she can do and who she can be. The movie uses humor and exaggeration to make these rules seem oblivious or unrecognizable, illustrating how unfair and impossible they can feel. By making the pink world so extravagant, the movie helps viewers to see how society often teaches young girls and women to be a certain kind of feminine while still making it look fun and the new norm. The pink isn't just a decoration, it's a way to show both the appeal and the limits of being a woman in today's generation. The thumbnail of the movie even includes the words "Sh...

It's About the CHILDREN!- Yours Truly Selena

Image
It’s not about the children. I’m sick and tired of people worrying about unborn (2-second-old babies) but not “babies” that have gotten to see life, make friends, meet and love their parents, or parent (the list can go on and on). I’m not going to bash anyone’s belief or what they choose to believe, but I just want a couple of minutes of your time to stop and actually think. Given the state of the world (politically), whether we women (and not to be insensitive, but those that can bear children) who decided that the government should have a hand on our genitals at all times let me just say sooner or later it will affect us ALL. For the time being, you might be good, maybe all the way up until you have children of your own, but you will soon feel the hurt and pain you helped cause all the other women who just wanted to have an ultimatum at the end of the day. Let’s go ahead and say the big nasty word: ABORTION. Unfortunately, the government and some other small-minded people made this w...

Jojo Siwa

Image
I think one of the most interesting topics currently would be JoJo Siwa and her attempts to almost erase any type of queer identification she previously had from the internet. Through the last year she has gotten accused of adopting a "Trad Wife" identity, even going as far as making a cover to "Betty Davis Eyes" that depicted her in the role of a trad wife. Alot of individuals have been harmed by her choice to ignore her previous identity and to almost erase any sense of queer identity she once had. It almost appears as if she is ashamed, she ever developed this sense of style, which is extremely offensive and harmful to the LGBTQ+ community. She even cheated on her girlfriend with a man after being openly out as a lesbian for years and then chose to ignore the elephant in the room for months before finally beating around the bush and saying she is queer identifying. I definitely don't agree with her actions, if anything I think many of her actions have been ...

Character or Caricature?

Image
We've all had breakups. It's a process of life, and while that may be true, no matter who you are, when is enough, enough? Streamer Kai Cenat has been going viral due to his current rebrand. Some may ask what's wrong with wanting to be a better person, especially with New Year's coming through, time for New Year's resolutions.  The thing is, this isn't Kai's first time doing something like this. Multiple people have noticed on multiple occasions that Kai tends to do things that come off as performative. One clip from two years ago shows Kai admitting to liking Anime, but his friend later calls him out for lying. While this can be seen as Kai having a case of FOMO, why does this matter, and what is the bigger picture here? In the past few weeks, Kai has appeared on social media and announced that he is going to quit streaming. Most people know the Bronx-oriented man for being loud, funny, and authentic, while inviting people to his home to game, rap, and even...

blog 2- The Wolf Of Wall Street

Image
My roommate and I couldn't find a movie to watch last night, so we both decided to put on The Wolf Of wall street. We both thought we could get a laugh out of it because we both had been super tired and needed a pick-me-up movie.  While we were watching it, we realized that it's not just about money and partying and having the time of your life with your friends, but also shows how women are used as objects. Such as when they all did a good job at work one day, and the boss decided to throw a party and have hookers/strippers show up so that the men in the workplace could have fun. While one of the women got $10,000 to shave her head, she did it because she needed the money. As good as this movie is, the pop culture aspect of it makes it the lifestyle every man wants (the riches and everything they want to have), but having this lifestyle makes it a system where women are just easy and disposable.

Stop the Genocide NFL Controversy

Image
This season during the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, One of the running backs on the Houston Texans, Azeez Al-Shaair was wearing eye black on his face where he wrote "Stop the genocide" over it. This has caused some controversy around the league as Al-Shaair was fined about $11,593 for the incident. The NFL described it as " violating NFL uniform and equipment rules by wearing eye black that contained a personal message." For the last few seasons, the NFL has had various phrases on the end zones of each field as well as the back of players helmets that range from "Stop Hate", "Choose Love", "End Racism", "Inspire Change", and "It Takes All of Us". Having these messages on the field yet punishing a player for writing a message on his eyeblack is giving the idea that the NFL only has these messages to strengthen their image.
