High Potential

In class, we talked about women leading in TV shows to check out, and I want to expand on the show High Potential. High Potential is a show with a woman lead, and it's the perfect mix of crime and romance. We see Morgan Gillory, a single mom who has three kids. There is a father figure for two of her kids who tend to the youngest, a boy and a girl, and Morgan's oldest teen's dad went missing. 

Morgan has a high IQ, so when she looks at something, she can immediately figure something out, which makes her good at solving crimes. One night when she was working as a cleaning lady at the police station,n she bumped into a crime board and instantly solved the crime, which caused her recruitment to work with the Police as a consultant with the agreement that they would search for her daughter's father, who had disappeared. 

I think this is one of the only series I've been able to watch that has been entertaining. I don't have much time to watch TV, but when I do, I love watching shows that really make me want to continue watching episode after episode. Not only is it a good show, but it also shows how we can have these interesting shows that have a woman lead that isn't a tradition family with kids and father, and that isn't centered around misogynic jokes but instead represented with a woman being smart and doing something that one would consider a male-dominated action.  

This show is worth watching and has gotten positive reviews. It's currently been renewed for the second season. ABC has not just said it’s the fall’s #1 broadcast entertainment series in live+7 day viewing, but it’s set a literal record that has stood for 26 years. High Potential season 2 represents the first time that a 10 PM drama has led these rankings since 1999, when ER did the same. It's clearly a show that's meant to stay around for a while and represented by a woman on the screen!
