WGST Event
A while back, I had attended the "What Were You Wearing?" walkthrough in Lib Jackson. While I have procrastinated writing about this, it is something that I have not stopped thinking about. This exhibit was extremely powerful, and showed the real answer behind that question. There is a massive stigma around rape, that it has to do with what the victim was wearing. Well the truth is, is that you don't have to be wearing something provocative or "suggesting."
There are plenty events all over the world similar to the one here at Coastal. I have seen many online and they all share a common theme. The clothes that are displayed, are mostly just your everyday clothes. I think the most eye opening outfits are the ones that belong to children. There is no standard for what someone is wearing when they are raped, and this exhibit really did an amazing job at showing that.
