U.S./Israel - Iran War
U.S. President Donald Trump posted today how he's pulling back on his threats to attack Iranian bridges, power plants, and other civilian targets, agreeing to a two-week ceasefire and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also said Iran has proposed a 10-point peace plan that could help end the war the U.S. and Israel launched on February 28. Trump had previously threatened that a "whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again, " if Iran fails to meet his deadline to strike a deal by reopening the Hormuz Strait through which a fifth of the world's oil is transported. Many people, including Democrats in Congress, United Nations officials, scholars in military law, and even Pope Leo XIV argue that such strikes would violate international law. Hence, there is a heavy push for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against Trump. However, the vice president and cabinet need to agree that he is unfit for the job, which is unlikely to happen, knowing how much power and influence Trump has over his party. There are, however, a few high-ranking authorities of the republican party who are also calling for the 25th Amendment, including Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Alex Jones, and Marjorie Taylor. This is important to pop culture because conflicts like these can shape music, public opinion/conversations, and films that reflect public tensions and emotions. Platforms like TikTok can spread both awareness and misinformation, turning serious issues into mass-viewed cultural events that influence the entirety of the public’s perception.
Hello! Thank you so much for choosing this as the topic for your weekly blog post. I remember seeing all this go down online and it is truly shocking to see how reckless our current president is.
ReplyDeleteWith a couple of my friends being in the military this whole has been scary. When I first saw all this I asked them their thoughts and they all thought this whole thing is so pointless.
