The Chi
For this week’s blog post, I wanted to talk about a new show I recently started called “The Chi." It is a show that focuses a lot on the stereotypes about Chicago and the violence that goes on. It also shows a lot of what every day looks like for the people who live in Chicago, specifically in the South Side, as well as the struggles they deal with, the many different types of families. I really like the show because I feel like it really brings in a lot of attention towards gun violence in Chicago as well. I personally really like that it’s authentic stories that can probably be related to by people not just in Chicago, but it also gives multiple different perspectives within one community, and it doesn’t make everyone have the same kind of life. Everybody’s life is very different. Everyone has different struggles and goes through different stuff, but that’s what keeps it so interesting and how it seems so real. Like I said before I also really liked that. It talks a lot about the gun violence and the inequality that is once again not just in, but especially in Chicago. When you sit there and watch the show and you choose to watch the show, you really start to notice how often these things can just come about in society. I feel like another reason why I find it so interesting is because of the fact that it isn’t what you would expect to see on TV. It argues with the fact that these primarily Black communities are supposed to only be portrayed in one specific way; some of the characters in the show made more money than I think I might ever make, and others might not have been doing so well, but that was just another way of showing the different perspectives. Overall, I just think that this show is a really good inclusive way to make us feel like we understand how it is to live in Chicago a little bit more, especially with all the different struggles they face.
