The Chappell Controversy: An Update...

Recently, Chappell Roan has come under fire for a situation that apparently occurred between her security team and an 11-year old, who is the step-daughter of a famous soccer star, Jorginho. Chappell has been known for being very vocal about her personal boundaries, and discussing many of the realities that come with being a popular figure. Allegedly, the 11-year old walked past Chappell’s table at a hotel, looked at her and smiled, then walked away. Jorginho took to social media after this incident occurred, immediately jumping to conclusions and blasting Chappell Roan, implying she sent security to speak with the 11-year old and her mother.

Weeks after this controversy became largely known and spewed tons of hate towards Chappell, Jorginho came out withdrawing his previous statements after realizing he was incorrect in what he said about the interaction. However, the negativity and targeting that Chappell endured and continues to endure doesn’t simply go away with an apology or realization of fault. This controversy is an example of how women specifically are harassed and dragged when standing up for themselves and not giving into patriarchal standards. Several famous women have faced similar situations in which their careers were affected simply due to miscommunications and their willingness to stand up.

  1. To be honest, when this was getting stirred in the media I didn't pay it mind because Chappell Roan could literally disassociate and be called several harmful names so I turned a blind eye because initially because I don't like kids so my opinion would've been bias but also people tend to just hate Chappell Roan for her being obnoxious on how she is being treated by people in the media. I think the crazy thing about this whole situation is for the simple fact this was practically a smear campaign against her and it took him WEEKS to come out and say "hey she actually didn't have anything to do with the situation" I think it's crazy because women already face scrunity but people will find absolutely any reason to drag a successful woman though the dirt.

  2. I know that people already don't like Chappell Roan because she's been one of few celebrities to set boundaries when it comes to greeting her in public, also when it comes to paparazzi on the red carpet, but the fact she got drug through the dirt for nothing is insane. People were so quick to jump on the hate train just for the sake of the trend and not even considering her perspective. Many male singers get so much grace and get to talk to their fans any kind of way without being scrutinized or there's always some kind of bs excuse.
