Season 3 of Euphoria
*may spoil the first episode*
Sunday, the third season of Euphoria had premiered. There has been a long gap since the last season was released, and the timeline of the show aligned with that gap. The show now follows the same characters, except they are now in their adult years. The show still does a great job at discussing topics that you don't really see in shows because they are so sensitive. Also, something that I like is how up to date on trends the show is too.
I have seen mixed reviews on just the first episode because of the dramatic energy shift in the storyline. While it is just the first episode and introduction, some people are saying they are not a huge fan because of how disconnected everyone seems from one another, and the plot lines themselves just seem to chaotic. However, other people online are discussing how much they really enjoyed the episode because of (even though not typical) how intense the storylines are. Rue is now a drug mule, and we see the harsh truths of how intense the drug world can be and the risks that are taken. Nate and Cassie are now engaged, and there is a huge power dynamic in the relationship. I think their relationship is an important one to focus on because it is a prime example of a relationship where the man holds all the power and is the head of household. Cassie is trying to promote herself sexually on social media, so she is able to make money to finally be able to contribute and control some of the financial situations in their household. I think it is way too early on in the season to judge, but I am excited to see the development of these characters and the plot that production came up with.
I think it makes sense that people have mixed feelings since the first episode feels very different and a bit all over the place. It sounds like the show is still covering serious topics and setting up interesting storylines for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteI think people want to have an issue with the show right now. I understand that yes the first episode isn't like the last couple of seasons but unfortunately the show had to go in a different direction because first off their not highschoolers anymore there in the real world so perspectives have to change, and it's just the first episode I would say for the people who right off the back don't like it give it time to not like it.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's still the first couple set of episodes, and there can be an understanding of how the character's are officially adults rather than teenagers in high schools can explain why the lighting or even many aesthetic moments from the earlier seasons aren't here anymore, but I think it's worth talking about how Sam Levinson decides to portray his women, especially in Euphoria. There's always been something worth discussing when it comes to the women of this show and how they're portrayed. Even though not inherently confirmed as it's still early on in the season, it's hinted that many of the leading female characters in the show will be involved with sex work. Are we telling these stories as a warning of the dangers of this industry/the raw experiences an actual worker may have, or are we doing it for the sake of a story and exploitation.
