Chappell Roan - World's Least Favorite Artist (allegedly)
For this week’s topic, I will discuss Chappell Roan and some recent controversies they have faced in the media. Starting strong, whenever Roan entered the industry on a major scale, they were immediately disliked by many as they felt as if they were being performative. That she was only piggybacking off the successes of those who came before her, instead of personal talent. Not long after, Roan was filmed on the red carpet telling a photographer, who was rude to her in the past, that they remembered what they said and felt really uncomfortable with their presence/to not do it again. Next, Roan went online to tell her fans that she prefers to not have people walking up to her all the time in public and wants her privacy in public. Lastly, most recently, Roan has been extremely under fire for being associated with a third-party security guard who accosted a minor for pacing around Roan at their hotel. Very convoluted situations that require thorough research and situational knowledge. Ultimately, it is very sad to see how many people are ready to dig a woman into her grave before a man. Men artists can shoot women, rape them, molest them, hook up with minors, send nudes to minors, etc., and they can still have highly successful tours. Where is the line? Why do people feel entitled to the success of women, yet entitled to promote the success of men?
There are too many corrupted men supporting or dont care enough to contradict the other men who uphold these values. I may be familiar with Roan but I can't recall what I know her from, but I do think words and stories can always be twisted, especially when relayed through multiple people. I instantly though of the whole situation between Zacy Bryan and his ex fiance or wife; I was surprised he wasn't canceled, I mean Trump and numerous music artists as well. It all comes down to money and influence.
ReplyDeleteI kind of think that the reasoning for the hate behind Roan has been because of her being independent and herself. She tells people to back off and is strict with her privacy even as her status of celebrity. Most celebrities seem to want the attention and thrive off it, or the one that are uncomfortable with it just grin and bare it. It is a positive for Roan to fight for her agency. Her preference towards women as well just seems to make men mad too.
