Bugonia: The portrayal of powerful women

I recently watched the new horror film Bugonia and I absolutely loved it! The film is about aliens, conspiracy culture, and humanity's self destruction. Emma Stone's portrayal of the harsh, unbending CEO Michelle Fuller especially reflects how we see powerful, strong women in business. Her character is an exaggeration of an unempathetic executive who will do whatever it takes to stay on top. For example, there is on scene where she savagely tells off one of her workers, showing no sympathy for their situation. I also really appreciate Jesse Plemons' character which represented a specific male archetype of the outcast "incel". Stone and Plemmons play off of each other beautifully.

The movie features an insane plot twist that perfectly wraps up the story. I feel like there is a new wave of horror films starring female leads, letting them play the "ugly", nasty, and sometimes evil personas. It is a nice step away from the "blonde bimbo" stereotype so often featured in classic horror films. Overall, I highly recommend Bugonia.
