April Fools in the Media
In light of April Fools day being today I wanted to talk about corporate companies who take April Fools and run with it. Companies as well as celebrity HQ accounts and everyone in-between take the day to prank the people in their lives. Personally, I always forget that it's April Fools day and fall for almost everything I see. Bright and early (midnight on the dot) I immediately fell for a joke posted by a Renee Rapp fan account saying she was releasing the deluxe version of her album. I was immediately annoyed that I had fallen for something before the day could even really start. I am a very gullible person and I will fall for almost anything that is posted today. Not all jokes are completely harmless though, Some jokes that companies pull have real consequences to society. The first one that comes to mind is a joke Google tried to pull a few years ago before having to delete the post. In doing this, Google changed their gmail layout and put a "mic drop" minions gif in place of the send button. This sparked controversy after a writer accidentally sent this and lost their job over it. April Fools can be all fun and games but sometimes companies and people take it a step too far and ruin the fun for others.
I am the same way, I always forget its April Fools day and I get pranked. One of my favorite artists released he was going on a world tour and I couldn't tell if it was a prank or now, thankfully it wasn't!
ReplyDeleteHello! Thank you so much for choosing this as the topic for your weekly blog post. I never heard of April Fools business pranks going wrong but that Google one is totally understandable. Someone losing their livelihood over an april fools prank is absurd. Thank you again!
