What is wrong with COASTAL!
What is wrong with Coastal Carolina? Can you tell me?
What’s next
Your application will remain active, and University Housing staff will make room assignments as rooms become available. You can expect that University Housing will notify you of your room assignment or the status of your housing application on or before Friday, July 10, 2026, via @coastal.edu email address."
If you don't understand this email, basically Coastal is telling (juniors, seniors, and commuters) that we are last on the priority list of importance of whether or not we have a place to stay next semester. And that they prompt us to look for off-campus housing even though some of us paid $200 (which is nonrefundable) to go through the roommate and housing process, and if there is room, we will be told in July. My issue with this is the fact that we were told at the last minute, and we ultimately lost money because they didn't tell us that this was even an option until after we paid 200.
The issue of the matter is not only just the fact that they literally messed over the upperclass but what about the people who already struggle to attend Coastal? Now thats more stress on everyones plate, I dont think they understand that! Its nice that everyone wants to attend coastal but coastal isnt making a fast enough effort to expand campus, parking, and housing but instead leaving people who have put in their time out to dry. Already in this economy its hard to live without being in debt but as a college student its super hard already just attending college and now they want me or us to live off-campus while attending full week of classes, pay for the expensive rent and utilities, groceries, transportation (if you even have that), necessites, and just personal stuff. Its getting to be that coastal is worrying about the wrong things and not investing time and energy to the people that did the same to them. A lot of people are talking about transfering or droping out which is so scary!! And Ik some people might be like its not that bad but at the same time we deserve to able to pick where we want to stay and who we would want to stay with we shouldint be last priority and what happens if their is no room by july 10th school starts in august!? I'm very disappointed and angry but I'm not surprised.
I agree! This is a crazy issue. Next year I will be an RA, so I will still be on campus, but all of my friends who will be off campus are having trouble with housing, and their only result is to get an apartment. I really believe that Coastal does need some improvements when it comes to necessities like housing, parking, etc. Accepting more students than you can house just to kick upperclassmen out is truly so saddening because not only does it leave a financial dent in the students' pockets, but now it really leaves you last minute to get housing, and if one wanted to transfer somewhere else, that opportunity is out, depending on move deadlines, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely ridiculous. The part I find the craziest is that they won't inform you until July, meaning that you have about a month if not less, to find housing before school starts. I know that a lot of places off campus begin their leases in June, which will make it much more difficult to find an opening or find someone's lease to take over.
ReplyDeleteThe way they handled the housing situation entirely was completely wrong. I'm currently going into my sophomore year, and my roommates and I have even had trouble trying to get housing simply because they have bitten off more than they can chew. The only explanation for this is that they are in it for the money, they don't care if they have enough housing or if that people won't have anywhere to go, all they care about is filling their pockets. We shouldn't be scrambling to find housing, we shouldn't be struggling with parking, and we shouldn't have the issues we do with getting the classes we need to graduate. I think there needs to be an extreme reevaluation on these issues because what's happening now clearly isn't working. I also think they need to stop letting so many students come in because it is seriously creating more problems than there has to be.
