weight culture
Weight culture in America often makes people feel like their value depends on how much they weigh or the shape of their body. This way of thinking is pushed by social media and advertisements that suggest being thin is the only way to be happy or healthy. It creates a "norm" where people feel pressured to follow strict diets or change themselves just to fit in with everyone else. Because of this, many people struggle with their self-esteem if they don't look like the models they see online. However, more people are starting to challenge these ideas by practicing "body positivity" and accepting themselves as they are. They believe that health and beauty come in all different sizes, not just the ones society usually praises.
One thing that this post made me think of was the "Chloe ting" ab workout trend we all fell victim to during the covid years. Why was I forcing myself to do workouts like that every day as a high schooler to make myself look better when I was a damn toothpick. Social media stains young minds when it comes to things specifically weight culture.
ReplyDeleteI think social media has destroyed people's self-esteem. People are thinking their worth is determined by if they look like some influencer on TikTok who has paid thousands of dollars for plastic surgery.
