The Relevance of Euphoria for Gen Z
For this week‘s blog, I wanna talk about the way the show Euphoria is so prevalent in Gen Z. A lot of younger people like to watch the show because at least one of the characters, if not multiple, have some aspects that they can relate to, for example, the main character who struggles with mental health issues like anxiety and self harm, as well as a drug addiction. While the boy she's in love with has really really bad depression. Everyone and her friend group is going through their own thing that Gen Z can find a lot of similarities in with their own lives for example, one of the girls Maddie, her best friend was secretly hooking up with her boyfriend on the side while her best friend knew they were going through a rough patch. I feel like Euphoria Emphasizes the relevance of mental health issues and just the things that we go through on a daily basis that not everybody talks about there’s also scenes that go viral on TikTok all the times so as soon as someone is scrolling on TikTok and see a clip of a really interesting episode, they’re gonna wanna go watch the show and then it just becomes more popular from that. Since a new episode of the show normally does come out every Sunday there is the Sunday night effect on social media, where everyone ends up going online after the episode drops and talking about it and it basically takes over the media.
I haven't seen the show yet but a lot of my friends have so I know a little bit about it. While reading your description of the show, it does seem like a show I could get into! The show does seem to have a really good cast which is what can make or break a show for me.
ReplyDeleteI actually can't wait for the new season. I think it talks about some real issues and makes them a little easier to watch because of the characters and sometimes added drama. I think this season will be a little off the beaten path because of the whole drug money thing, but I am still looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteEven though show is iconic especially in Gen Z culture, I think there's still a lot of issues (that probably won't be fixed). Even though the new season will be a five-year time skip, the earlier seasons of one and two romanticized a lot of mental health issues, I would argue also create an unrealistic narrative of high school at certain points. Sam Levinson is a monster honestly due to the oversexualization of these high school characters as well. (I also just really have imaginary beef with him). However, I do love the cast and Zendaya's acting as well is phenomenal and has shown how much she's grown as an actress past her prime of her Disney Channel days.
ReplyDeleteI think Euphoria is one of the best examples of what it is like to grow up in this time. It touches on so many topics that are not widely talked about and I feel like in the show, there is a situation or a character that everyone can relate to.
