The Manosphere
I do not have a lot of information on what has been shown lately, so I wanted to come onto this blog for a discussion and analyze what I have been hearing.
A new documentary has come out called The Manosphere, by Louis Theroux, on Netflix. So far, what I know is that it critiques and points out the misogyny within male influencer groups. I do think this is a very good topic to critique and point out, as the rise of male "red pilled" and conservative podcasters and influencers has reached younger men in the worst way. But one of the critiques I have seen is that this documentary comes from a man. I have seen a couple of shorts and TikToks about this where women have pointed out the problems and issues, only to be belittled and put down for saying anything, but the second a man comes around to say something is then that it gets attention and acknowledgment. Unfortunately, I do understand where this comes from, as many men are already biased when seeing the information given by a woman. The assumption is that she is a feminist and hates men, so they do not want to listen. However, when it is delivered by a white man, they are more inclined to listen.
I do think there is merit in the issue, because why would women have to rely on a man to deliver their issues? But in our time of society, our issues are still belittled, and we are called hurtful words and names. So it unfortunately takes a piece from a man to point out the problem. I have yet to see the documentary, so I can only give my thoughts based on what I have heard. But I do appreciate it for what it is. Given that the topic needs to be heard, and women need allies of all kinds.
What do you think of this? Is there more to this, and are people right?
