The Brit Awards!
Lots happened at the Brit awards last Saturday (Feb 28th), and because of that, it has been a source of pop culture news all week. There were some big wins for some artists including recent Best New Artist Grammy winner Olivia Dean; she won the Brits for artist of the year, song of the year, and album of the year! Rosalia made history by becoming the first artist who sings primarily in a language other than English to win the Brit for International Artist of the year, and she also performed.
Another notable moment included Harry Styles' performance of the lead single "Aperture" from his new album "Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally". This was part of his return to the music scene after an approximate three year break from performing or releasing music. His confident and high energy performance has received high praise from fans and critics, while also being called boring by people online. Personally, I thought it was great.
Lastly, Kelly Osbourne appeared at the Brits to accept a lifetime achievement award on behalf of her late father, Ozzy Osbourne, alongside her mother, Sharon Osbourne. Kelly is now fighting back against comments that have been made about her body this week after her acceptance at the show. She wrote the following in an Instagram Post:
“There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something,” aiming her statement at those online who are “kicking me while I’m down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most.”
She has faced criticism over her body a lot over the past few weeks as she's made more public appearances since her father's death. The comments are definitely uncalled for and she's making that known.
