The Bachelorette: CANCELED

Recently, I saw that the new season of The Bachelorette on ABC with Taylor Frankie Paul was canceled, and it really surprised me because it is not normal for a full season to be canceled right before it comes out. Taylor Frankie Paul is also known from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, so a lot of people already knew who she was before she was picked. This made the season feel different from the beginning because she was not from The Bachelor like most leads are. It showed that ABC was trying something new by choosing someone from social media and reality TV instead of someone from the usual show. This also shows how people can become famous today through apps like TikTok and then get big opportunities like being on TV. At the same time, being famous online can be risky because people can easily find things from your past. In this case, past problems involving Taylor came back up and caused a lot of backlash, which led ABC to cancel the season. That is a big decision because the show was already filmed and promoted. This situation shows that reality TV is changing, but it also shows some problems with choosing influencers. They can bring attention and new viewers, but they also bring more public judgment. Networks now have to be more careful when picking people because anything from their past can affect the show. Overall, this shows how connected social media and reality TV are today and how quickly things can change.

I saw this and literally freaked out this whole backlash is INSANE. Especially considering they already filmed and stuff is crazy. But I do genuinely wonder if this were to have been a man if they would have not put out the season.
ReplyDeleteI understand the severity of this situation, of course, the way she was acting in the video was not okay at all but it really highlights how women are judged more harshly than men in the public eye. If the lead had been a man I just feel like the backlash probably wouldn’t have been nearly as intense or damaging to his image.
ReplyDeleteI saw the video of her with the stools and I just thought it was insane, but its the fact that they picked her for show and all those videos and information was already out there and they still choose her.
ReplyDeleteI think it was for the best that they canceled the show because I think what she did was not okay. However, I believe that ABC only canceled the show because now that she is getting a lot of backlash, it would look bad on ABC for "supporting" her, but why would they even film it in the first place if they were already aware of her past?
ReplyDeleteI also have seen the videos, although it is really an unfortunate situation, this also raises awareness that men can be victims of domestic violence as well, and potentially impowering victims to speak up. But also I agree with what others are saying, would the same consequence occur if the genders were flipped? It's crazy to think about
