Superbowl 2026 (1/2 Missing Blogs)
For one of the two blog posts that I am posting late, from the last two weeks, I wanted to talk about something that we as a whole for our whole country have witnessed was the Super Bowl halftime show. I personally think it’s incredibly petty to host two halftime shows because most of the time you don’t hear that happening. As a half Hispanic half white woman I love Bad Bunny even though sometimes I might not understand what he’s saying 100% I still love the music. I still love my culture and I think it was amazing that he got to go out there and put on for Puerto Ricans everywhere. Within his performance, he put in so many different cultural symbolisms. For example, a part of the halftime show was him handing off the trophy to a young Hispanic boy. While the young boy was not the boy whose picture was going around the Internet for being separated from his father by immigration, everyone still got the message he was trying to send. He also performed in what looked to be a sugar cane field, which is a symbol of colonial exploitation, because when Puerto Rico was seized by America in 1898, the sugar companies seized land and put out farmers. The final symbol that really made me enjoy the halftime show was the big billboard that says the only thing more powerful than love is hate as well as the football that he was holding that says together, we are America. While many people wanted to say Bad Bunny hates America. He made sure to prove them wrong in this show. He went out of his way to shout out, not just his own birthplace, but as well as every other country and territory. I feel as if with everything going on in the world, this was the perfect time for him to preform.
I think his performance was amazing. The symbolization was incredible, and I think Bad Bunny found the perfect place between spreading a message while keeping it a lighthearted performance. Also, the entire show just felt like a party between the dancers, lights, and the set itself.
