Son of Spergy
An album I have been recently listening to a lot is Daniel Caesar's most recent album Son of Spergy (2025). From a women and gender studies perspective, many songs show him being unsure, reflective, and even apologetic, which challenges the ideas of masculinity in society. This pushes back on gender roles and give more support for men to express vulnerability without societal judgement. Overall in my opinion the album opens up space about masculinity and emotion.
Personally I love this album because of all the emotions you can feel in each song, and the religious elements in some the songs. A lot of the songs are about love and self reflection which many people can relate to. Personally I love this Daniel Caesar is one of my favorite artists and was not disappointed by this album. In my opinion this is a no skip album so if you have listened, are a fan, or was disappointed or did not like the album let me know your thoughts and feelings!
I have not listened to the album in its entirety, but I have listened to a few songs. I enjoyed them and definitely want to listen to the rest of the album!
