Punch the Monkey

I'm sure many of you have seen the viral Japanese monkey that is bullied by the other monkeys in his exhibit. Many clips of him being attacked by the other monkeys have been circling all over the internet, even making it to some news sites. He was abandoned by his mother and carried around a stuffed monkey that he took everywhere, and looked to it for comfort and support.

The main reason that I write about this is because it truly shows how when something goes viral on the internet, how many people it can reach. Like I mentioned, this monkey is from Japan and his story is reaching people from all over the world. Many people are trying to rally together to get him removed from his habitat because not only is he being attacked by the other monkeys, the exhibit itself is just not fit for animals. It's practically all cement with rock structures, there is no greenery or things to keep the monkeys happy and entertained. It is also really disappointing on the zoo because they have not removed him yet, even though it's obvious he is being bullied. I think they are keeping him in now because he is attracting so many visitors and making the zoo loads of money. It is evil how companies will do anything if it means they are getting richer and richer.

  2. I have seen videos about this monkey on instagram and tiktok. He is so cute and it breaks my heart when he gets bullied. I do agree with you how this situation really puts in perspective how fast media can reach across the world. While this can be positive, there are also negative effects. Hopefully he starts having a better time adapting to the environment!
