Netflix - Monsters
Since I am a crime junkie and love to watch crime shows, I thought I would talk about the Monsters series on Netflix. Each season features a different famous serial killer. I do think the show dramatized what happened in history with these killers, since it is a TV show. The first season is the story of Jeffrey Dahmer, who is one of America's most notorious serial killers. It follows his life and crimes over the years. The show highlights the impact on victims and the community. Season 2 shifts the focus from a serial killer to a very famous, controversial murder case of the Menendez Brothers who were arrested for the murder of their parents. This season depicts their upbringing, family, and abuse. Season 3 is the newest season to come out and this season was about Ed Gein whose real -life crimes in the mid-20th century. He has also inspired many famous villains in movies. If you don't like gore i wouldn't recommend this show but the crime backstories of all the seasons i think they did a great job.

Yes the way they went about making Jeffrey Dahmer was so good and did such a good job to really see it for how it was to try and understand it and what happened. Evan Peters did such a good job playing his role he had spoke about how much of a toll it took on his mental health.
ReplyDeleteI watched this show and I absolutely loved all three seasons. I think they did a great job of showing the true and gruesome nature of the crimes that impacted so many people. Also, I think it was interesting that season 2 of this show sparked an interest in the Menendez brothers in society, and they were able to get re-considered for parole.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to watch these shows because they are actually really interesting but its hard for me to watch when its gruesome stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteI am unfamiliar with this show, but I, too, am invested in crime documentaries. I wanted to ask how the Dahmer season compares to the show that was cast about him. I never heard of Ed Gein before and what horrific things he did, but it was interesting to learn that he inspired the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, American Psycho, and The Silence of the Lambs. I've seen all three of these movies so I can get an idea of how gruesome this man was without even knowing anything about him.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any plans to watch it just because I'm not a huge television person, but I am a huge crime junkie! I've seen clips from all of the seasons, and it is really interesting to see these individuals lives almost retold, it's eerie and intriguing all in one. I also have to give props to Evan Peters for his role as Jeffrey Dahmer, that is an insanely hard role to take on, and he did an incredible job with it. I've loved his work for years and he really embodied the role he was given.
ReplyDeleteIt is on my list but I am not sure if I will watch. I always think crime shows are for me and then I get scared. I still find the stories interesting, but I will stick to reading about them and not watching.
