Mack, Teen Beach Movie

 

Over the weekend me and my friends watched Teen Beach Movie. Through out the whole movie though I noticed that Mack would often advocate and tell the girls from the past that they can be independent and don’t have to do everything for a boys attention. As this movie has characters who are set in the 1960’s while Mack is from the current day. So these people that Mack is telling this to don’t understand what she is saying because they are so used the gender norms that were set in the 1960’s. Overall though what I am trying to say is, Mack is a very influential and impactful character who is always challenging and going against the gender norms that we have created, also it is nice to see a movie created by Disney that includes conversations about gender norms and the problems they create.

    I loved all of these movies as a kid. As a kid I didn't really understand the true nature of some of the film, I was more focused on the catchy soundtrack. However, now that I am older I can definitely see some of the more in depth observations, like those that you mentioned.

    Me and my sisters loved these movies growing up. I 100% agree with you, Mack is a strong, influential character, and it is good to see how characters like her are in children's movies.

A Heated Rivalry or Wicked Misogyny?

 As someone who may hold bias to the extent that I refuse to watch Heated Rivalry, I think it's important to state that I've seen a couple of episodes, and the show just isn't for me. I've also watched both the Wicked movies starring Cynthia Erivo and Arianna Grande. Now you are probably wondering what these two media films have in common. Well, nothing to be exact, and I think that's the preface we must state first.  This isn't about the series/movies, it's about the co-stars, but first, here's a little context you may need to understand where I am coming from. Arianna Grande plays in the musical adaptation of Wicked and Wicked for Good, directed by Jon M. Chu. Intro/Post-Grad Plans!

Hi everyone, My name is Emily Webb, and I’m from Frederick, Maryland. I am a senior majoring in Digital Culture & Design with a double minor in Graphic Design and Social Media. I am currently finishing up my applications for Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs in Technology Education or Art Education. My goal is to become a secondary teacher for digital arts courses. I am excited about combining my love for digital media with teaching and helping students develop both creative and technical skills. Outside of school, I enjoy crafting with my Cricut.
