Labour

Paris Paloma – labour Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Following along the theme of feminine protest songs, one song that comes to mind for me whenever we talk about this is "Labour" by Paris Paloma. The song blew up on Tik Tok in recent years, and has drawn a lot of attention to some feminist issues. The song itself discusses not only the physical burden that women face, but also the emotional, and mental burdens. For example, a section of the song that really stands out to me is the following lines "All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid Nymph, then a virgin, nurse, then a servant, Just an appendage, live to attend him So that he never lifts a finger, 24/7 baby machine So he can live out his picket-fence dreams, It's not an act of love if you make her, You make me do too much labour".  For me, this one part of the song truly captures a really big part of one of the issues that women face everyday, and I really respect that she included not only this section, but wrote the song as a whole. Many people are scared to make art about these things, and so I find it really important and respectable that she did this.

  1. I absolutely love this song! I also agree that it’s important she made a song like this, especially since not everyone is willing to talk about these issues so directly.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this song with the class this week. I have never heard of this song before, but after listening to it I really enjoy the message behind it. The artwork is very good as well.
