Check Her Body Count
Last week, a website called checkherbodycount.com sparked widespread backlash after an X user promoted it, claiming the site used AI to estimate a woman’s “body count” (number of sexual partners) by analyzing her Instagram profile. The post said users could paste a woman’s Instagram URL and the app would estimate her sexual history based on her followers, posts, and stories. The claim quickly went viral, gaining over 6 million views and spreading across social media platforms. Many people criticized the concept as sexist and reductive, noting that the idea of “body count” is often used to judge women unfairly. The website generates a random number. Although it is not based on any factual information, the concept is frightening.
Many critics said the main problem wasn’t whether the tool worked, but the concept itself. A website claiming to algorithmically estimate women’s sexual history raised concerns about misogyny, privacy, and the use of new technologies to shame or monitor women.
Legal expert Mathilde Pavis criticized the website as “absurd and dangerous,” saying the idea that a woman’s sexual history could be inferred from her appearance or social media is baseless and amounts to digital harassment rather than science. She warned that even false claims about sexual behavior can cause serious reputational and emotional harm, especially online, where people struggle to distinguish truth from fabrication and where generative AI amplifies misinformation.
I agree that the idea behind this website is concerning. Even if the number is random, it still encourages people to judge women based on harmful stereotypes. It also shows how technology and AI can be used in ways that invade privacy and spread misinformation online.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard about this website, but after reading this, I want to find more information about it and take a deeper dive into it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Pavis because this entire idea is very disturbing to me. The fact that a site is using AI to guess a woman's body count, but the fact that there are people out there who are trying to use AI to figure out someone's body count.
ReplyDeletewow...I personally did not hear about this site but the fact that people can even come up with an idea like this is extremely alarming. I can only imagine how many people actually believed the AI answer/used it themselves. I definitely agree with Pavis on how even the false claims can ruin so much in someones life.
