Beauty Standards Created by Media

I feel like social media is transforming our beauty standards in both good and bad ways as of lately for example on TikTok and Instagram, you’ll see a bunch of different body shapes a bunch of different races a bunch of different genders so it’s very diverse however I feel like these “BBL” bodies are being normalized because of TikTok and Instagram and all these celebrities and influencers getting them. As a woman I’m all for you wanting to be comfortable in your own body. It’s what you choose to do however, I feel like if you go get your body done solely because you want to fit these beauty standards and look like these Instagram models or TikTok influencers. I think that is ridiculous. We’re all beautiful in our own bodies at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much a way with your body shaped like none of that. I feel like as a woman we should all be very confident in ourselves and not let society shape these beauty standards. Everyone in their own way is beautiful in some specific way whether it be inside or out. Beauty can come from many different sources. Besides these physical surgeries, there is also a large issue because a lot of the times these influencers and celebrities are in some way shape or form editing their photos no matter if it’s to make their teeth a little bit wider or to make their skin clearer the way they change themselves makes their real life face look different. And this is another reason why I think we should stop with all of these beauty standards.

  1. I agree with you. Social media shows many different people, which is good, but it also creates pressure with trends like BBL bodies. I think people should do what makes them happy, not just to fit in. Editing photos makes beauty standards unrealistic. Everyone should feel confident and appreciate their natural beauty.

  2. I agree and want to add on how there is a similar problem, and it’s the fact that the use of steroids and other peds has become so normalized because of people on social media.

  3. I think it is very sad that so many women are altering themselves just to fit in with others. I am all for modifying yourself in little ways if that is going to make you feel confident! However, I find it extremely sad when people become unrecognizable to meet these made up beauty standards. Also, beauty standards change over time, so these women are spending so much time and money on a standard that may change in 5 years.
