Mercy Review

Mercy (2026) - IMDb
I recently watched Mercy, a movie about an AI-controlled court system, and I had mixed feelings about it. The story follows Chris Pratt’s character as he is on trial for the murder of his wife and is given only 90 minutes to prove his innocence to an AI judge, or he will be executed. The idea behind the movie is interesting and feels very relevant since technology is becoming more involved in important decisions. However, the movie did not fully keep my attention. Most of the film takes place in one setting, with his character sitting in a chair and talking for most of the time. Because of this, the pacing felt slow and repetitive. Despite these issues, the movie does convey a strong message. Mercy raises questions about whether AI should have control over something as serious as the justice system. It also demonstrates that technology has its limitations, particularly when it comes to comprehending human emotions and complex situations. By the end of the movie, the main point is clear that both humans and AI can make mistakes. Relying completely on either one can lead to serious problems. While Mercy was not my favorite movie, it did make me think more about the role of AI in real-life systems and how much power it should have.

  1. AI is such a hot topic and raises a ton of ethics questions such as impartiality and human rights conflicts. I haven't watched the movie but it is of interest and I will watch before Thursday.

  2. I will add this to the list of movies/ tv shows that I want to watch with my roommates. AI is such a large thing in todays world and we need to be cautious of putting too much trust in it (or any).
