Lindsey Vonn
I want to talk about Lindsey Vonn, she is one of the most successful alpine skiers in history. But over this past weekend she was participating in the Olympic downhill race when she was involved in a terrible crash where she had to be air lifted. The thing was she was racing on a torn acl that she had just suffered only a week before after crashing in a World Cup race. After tearing her acl she has now added on a fractured tibia following her most recent accident. This is just such a terrible way for one the best skiers ever to most likely end her career. She already has retired previously for 5 years before returning this year as well as being age 41.
I watch more summer Olympics than winter so I do not understand most of the sporting events but I have been following the Lindsey Vonn story. As someone who has torn their ACL from sports, I could never imagine going back to my sport only a week post injury. I think from an athletes perspective, she should not have gone back to play after her knee injury. We don't see athletes in the NFL or NWSL for example tearing any muscles and returning to play a week later. Granted, these are different sports but the injury remains the same.
