Jujutsu Kaisen's Maki

Even if you don’t watch anime, the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen where Maki Zenin fights the entire Zenin clan is one of the clearest examples of how anime reflects pop culture. Without looking too deep into it, its actually one of the best fight scenes i've seen in anime in a while, but symbolically it represents breaking away from oppressive systems. The Zenin clan stands for very unfair traditions, they run a patriarchy. For years Maki was treated as less, simply because she was a woman and didn’t fit what the clan believed power should look like. But in this masterpiece of an episode episode she turned on her own clan! The thing is its not even really about revenge, it’s about rejecting a system that constantly devalued her. Maki’s fight is so powerful because it shows that empowerment doesn’t always come from being accepted. Sometimes it comes from standing up to systems that were never designed to support you.

  1. What can I watch this on, and what other anime would you compare it to?
