Insatiable

This Tv show focuses on a girl whose name is Patty Bladell, she is in High school, and she gets bullied for being overweight for her age. After she starts losing weight over the summer and comes back to school the next year, everyone wants to be her friend, and even the popular kids at school want to start talking to her, and even boys start to walk up to her. She is even loved by pageant coaches, so that does not make it any better for her after she lost weight. This can be seen and even known as some type of transformation culture in the world. meaning that once someone loses a lot of weight and looks completely different compared to their older self, they are known as having a glow up and even being successful in what they did to get there. This shows unrealistic beauty standards to people today,  meaning they would rather care about how they look rather than how much respect they have for themselves and their mental health overall. This show can demonstrate that body image can be harmful to young women and even older women, as well as their self-esteem and their own expectations for themselves.

  1. This show is so good and does a good job showing beauty standards show how if you are part of the beauty standards people will treat you differently based on your appearance.

  2. This show honestly does a great job showing how toxic “glow up” culture can be. It’s wild how Patty only starts getting respect and attention after she loses weight, which really shows how messed up and shallow those beauty standards are. It definitely shows how body image pressure can mess with your self-esteem and mental health, especially for young women trying to figure themselves out.

  3. I agree I think this movie just spreads a message to young girls that is totally ridiculous: that you have to be skinny and pretty for people to like you. Spreading this message gives young girls, unrealistic standards that tell them people won't find you pretty unless you look like this. Every body type is different and young girls should be striving to keep themselves healthy and happy, not to appeal to others.
