Heroin Chic - The Remix

Before I start, I am not a medical professional nor did I want  to or take the time to research the specifics of things mentioned.

Needless to say, last year and this year are the times we’re seeing the return of “heroin” chic. The reality of being as thin as possible without looking ill or having others concerned about you. As if you were once a person who used recreational drugs, starved and deprived of food so you obviously adapt a more gaunt look. Often having deep under eye bags, string like hair, dark facial shadows, etc. All this being said, I wholeheartedly believe that we’re entering a new era of a nihilistic vision of beauty/beauty standards. It’s not only shaping the mind of mature adults whose minds are consumed by a toxic media but the minds, bodies, and souls of the young impressionable individuals. Seeing idols, parents, role models, teachers, friends etc. indulge in the bad habit of body checking, fat shaming, etc. Now those who come after us will grow up with a hazed perception of what it means to love yourself. Thinking loving yourself means to look like the people you see online and achieve that by using their methods. To be frank, the body image stuff has been going on since the dawn of social media and influencers etc. Even back when there was no social media, I’m sure people were influencing each other in real life or through the tv. It’s just more significant now that we’re seeing people openly admitting to taking weight loss drugs even if they’re not in need or suffering from diabetes. The manufacturing of new weight loss drugs just to avoid being told you’re taking meds from people who need it. This is the start of a new era.
