FLRT Energy

Announced late last year, FLRT energy is being marketed as the "Female Focused" counterpart for Monster Energy drinks. When the concept of these drinks was first revealed it sparked a lot of necessary backlash, the drinks, which are all pastel colors decorated with flowers, zero sugar and described as 'vibrant energy' are the embodiment of harmful female stereotypes. While you can argue more males do consume Monsters and females tend to lean towards Alani's and Celsius, marketing an energy drink with the intent of attracting females is odd. Also, it is statistically proven that men are more likely to indulge in drinks that are marketed as 'clean energy' similar to these, so why not just create another line of gender-neutral drinks to target both demographics. The brand doesn't seem to be well thought out and instead is a mockery of females who do enjoy the original monster energy drinks. Why are these drinks now being marketed as 'too masculine' for females when it is just a drink? This seems like the same approach as feminine cigarettes and the female pen, harmfully slapping gender onto an everyday item as a way to try and gain money.

  1. I think this is odd as well, especially since the name of the drink is "FLRT". Something we drink shouldn't be marketed for a specific gender; any gender could drink more of a certain drink, and it's frustrating that this is our world. I also wanted to say to all the energy drinkers to QUIT. I know a lot more girls who drink Monsters than males from my experience. I have been to the Poconos for a car race, and the monster company was there performing and advertising, and I would say there were a lot more men present at the events.

  2. I feel like it's sad at the fact we are making drinks that seem to be towards for more one gender than another when it's simply just a drink.

  3. I've heard of these. We are seeing many more products like energy drinks being marketed towards a certain gender when they are all just energy drinks that anyone can drink.
