Egg Apron
Something that I recall happening that a lot of people will probably remember as well is the incident of Hannah Neeleman, and the egg apron. Hannah Neeleman is a professionally trained Julliard ballerina, who now lives in Utah with her husband. Julia lived in NYC due to her dream of being a ballerina, yet when she met her husband she gave it all up for him and moved to Utah to start a farm. The two have many kids, and a wide following on social media. One event that gained particular traction for them was Julia's birthday, where she was hoping for a trip to Greece. She was very vocal about this, to the point that the viewer's knew this is what she was hoping for. However, when it came down to her actual gift, her husband had gifted her an egg apron. This man gifted his wife, the woman who gave up everything for him, an apron, to complete tasks for him. The people saw this, they were outraged (rightfully so). This man is a billionaire, and he chose to get his wife, who sacrificed everything for him, something that would be for his benefit. I think this incident is a really strong indicator of the treatment of many women in today's society.
I read an article recently about Hannah. It was revolting to see that her husband makes ALL of her decisions. They dated for a month, got engaged, married two months later, and Hannah was pregnant three months later. Hannah wanted to wait until she graduated from Julliard before they got married but her husband wouldn't hear of it. Every nine months or so she would be pregnant. Part of her lifestyle is common practice in the Mormon community. However, I think her husband, Daniel has carried it too far. When Hannah wanted to turn an unused shed/barn into a dance studio and he refused saying they needed it for a classroom to homeschool their children. When she was being interviewed for said article, he would answer for her or interrupt her, taking control of the interview. This is what a trad wife is.
ReplyDeleteThis case makes me so upset. It is so obvious she has fallen victim to this man's manipulation and control and he has taken over every single aspect of her life. If she wanted the trip to Greece, we know that money isn't the issue...but the next step down from a trip is not an egg apron. She does everything for the household and is clearly not being appreciated. Also, she gave up her dreams of being a ballerina, and she was so far into her journey. Julliard is one of the top ballet schools in the country, and takes immense levels of talent and dedication.
ReplyDeleteI was following Hannah's journey pretty closely a few months ago before having to take a step back due to the gravity of the situation. The way she is treated in her marriage is absolutely vile, she has no say in what she does and receives the absolute bare minimum treatment from her 'husband'. This is apparent by the way she is overly happy when she receives gifts that aren't even remotely related to any of her interests (Including the egg apron you mentioned). To her husband she is nothing but a cook, cleaner and babymaker, which is an absolutely disgusting way to view women. She is living in a household where she is having her earned rights stripped away and she doesn't even fully understand it because the man she is married to is so heavily manipulative. It is truly a sad situation to see unfold, especially when you consider all of her dreams and aspirations, she gave up for this man just to treat her like dirt.
