So I watch a lot of YouTube video essays, or discussion videos that talk about things on TikTok. Not things like silly trends, but more of what we discuss in class. I find it entertaining to watch and learn about what happens, especially things concerning women. I have come across this youtuber BrookeSharks, who does videos on these things, such as bad boyfriends on TikTok or very gendered discussions. I like listening to her as I can understand her thoughts and find out more about what happens in pop culture. Some small trends discuss the gendered problems in our world, and also show the general misinformation that people believe. The video I linked is about men misunderstanding the pains of childbirth or the hassles. Such videos shown were of men sleeping while their wives were in labor. Mostly on the side couches, but one video was a husband sleeping in the wife's hospital bed AFTER she just gave birth! I find this behavior absolutely horrendous. Some other videos show husbands in pain or making their issues the focus while their wife is in active labor or undermining their pain. I find that these problems have existed for a while, as the belief that women have higher pain tolerances exists due to the Patriarchy. Men assume it is because we are built for childbirth or because of periods. While in some cases that may be true, it is just plain misogyny to undermine someone's pain from stereotypical beliefs. Not to mention the medical side, where women are overlooked and pushed aside. Some men, though, should have more empathy and actually seem like they love their partners. I feel it may be rooted in their childhood upbringings, as fathers can push these thoughts while mothers excuse it. Coddling can also have effects of men not understanding more serious issues, but also some of it is just ignorance
I felt these topics would be interesting to discuss as these videos intrigue me, and sharing these problems can help bring awareness that evolves into change. I really hope these beliefs can change and that women can feel seen and acknowledged.
I like how you connected TikTok videos to bigger gender issues. Your examples clearly show why these beliefs are harmful. Talking about these videos is important because it helps people understand the problem and encourages change.

As someone who may hold bias to the extent that I refuse to watch Heated Rivalry, I think it's important to state that I've seen a couple of episodes, and the show just isn't for me. I've also watched both the Wicked movies starring Cynthia Erivo and Arianna Grande. Now you are probably wondering what these two media films have in common. Well, nothing to be exact, and I think that's the preface we must state first. This isn't about the series/movies, it's about the co-stars, but first, here's a little context you may need to understand where I am coming from. Arianna Grande plays in the musical adaptation of Wicked and Wicked for Good, directed by Jon M. Chu. She takes on the role of playing Galina (Galinda the Good), she is a very privileged and self-absorbed young woman who attends Shiz University and ends up facing an internal battle of being for the people or wanting her personal desire to keep her bond with Elphaba. Elphaba Thropp (The Wicked Wit...
Hi everyone, My name is Emily Webb, and I’m from Frederick, Maryland. I am a senior majoring in Digital Culture & Design with a double minor in Graphic Design and Social Media. I am currently finishing up my applications for Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs in Technology Education or Art Education. My goal is to become a secondary teacher for digital arts courses. I am excited about combining my love for digital media with teaching and helping students develop both creative and technical skills. Outside of school, I enjoy crafting with my Cricut. I love designing projects and bringing them to life by pressing my designs onto clothes and other items. Creating something tangible from a digital idea is really rewarding. I’m looking forward to connecting with all of you, sharing ideas, and learning from your experiences this semester! If you’re a senior, what are your post-grad plans (I know, the dreaded question), and if you’re not, what are you hoping to do after gradua...
