Baad Marriages

I follow writings on the website/app called Medium. It is where I learn so much about women, especially those who are living in countries where they cannot have a voice of their own. Today, I read an article about women living in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. Women are forced into Baad marriages. These forced marriages are done to settle disputes. When a male family member kills a member of another family, the killer's sister is forced into a marriage with the other family.  It is horrific that these women are forced into marriages.

When a conflict arises between two parties in the rural areas of Afghanistan, a council of elderly men get together to resolve the issue through “trade”, essentially granting permission to sacrifice young women, including underage girls, to men from the impacted family.

Women do not have rights to consent or oppose marriage. They pay for the crimes of their family members through forced marriage.
