Thirteen Reasons Why

Thirteen reasons why is a Netflix original that sparked a lot of conversation when it first came out because of the issue covered such as mental health, bullying, sexual assault, and the pressures teens face because of social media. When it was first released it quickly became significant and popular especially with young audiences because it pushed topics that were often ignored. The show influenced how television portrays high school life by showing that it is more emotionally complex than carefree and easy. This challenged the image seen in a lot of other high school shows. It also highlighted the role of social media, rumors, and peers when shaping identity and reputation. While the series was controversial I loved it and i feel like it really made people think about what issues should be portrayed on the screen. this show and since left a lasting mark by challenging how teen stories are told and encouraged conversations about responsibility, empathy, and awareness.

  1. Even though this is controversial, but I feel like it's only controversial because it's not something people would've expected for a tv show.

  2. Thirteen Reasons Why was an excellent program on Netflix. I think that no matter how controversial the topics are in the series, it should be a requirement for teens to watch. The series packed in so many topics that are relevant to today's youth. Parents could/should use the series to have open dialogue with their teens and to address any of the issues they may need to discuss.

  3. I have watched 13 Reasons Why before they took out some of the clips from the show. I enjoyed watching it because I feel like it showed what different people go through and how they hide it because they think it's better for them until people find out.

  4. Thank you so much for this post! I remember watching this around the time it came out and sadly wished it could be this easy to disappear. It also brought a very interesting message to the young masses, teaching them the importance of mental health etc. I can see now why it sparked so much conversation and why it still holds its message til this day.
