Nicki Minaj

A recent pop culture embarrassment or topic I find interesting is Nicki Minaj and her recent political move. Over the past few years Nicki has been going viral on social media for beefing with other girls coming up in the rap scene which made her lose some fans and supporters because she would start unnecessary “beef”. I think this really started her downfall along with her also marrying a felon who was convicted of rape. Her most recent drama has involved her political switch which is very ironic considering her fan base. She appeared at a conservative event with Erika Kirk where she spoke highly of Donald Trump and J.D. Vance and their policies. This shocked many people because Nicki has been seen as someone who empowers some minority and marginalized groups including black and LGBTQ communities. She has made some very concerning comments about those who identify as transgender and is starting to align with those who have political ideas that are against rights for all people. She has lost many supporters and even some famous friends over her switch up. I wonder if this is how she has always felt, and why she decided to use and trick communities to follow and support her even though she doesn't support them.

Comments

  1. As someone who used to listen to Nicki's older music, I find it hard to separate the art from the artist in this case after hearing the comments she had made. There are old interviews of Nicki Minaj speaking to her LGBTQ+ fanbase, going from those comments to the more recent ones she has made was definitely a crazy switch. I was unaware she had married a convected rapist which also changes my stance on her.

  2. I’ve always enjoyed Nicki and her older music, but even before the recent turn in her political views, I started eyeing her differently after she came after Megan Thee Stallion and started to lead a mini smear campaign with claims of her faking her injury after being shot, and saying horrendous things about Megan’s dead mother as well. It’s for sure jealousy as she realizes she’s not on top of her game like she once was about a decade ago and it shows within the quality of the music she produces, using AI covers, declining stage presence, as well as the treatment of others around her. Her husband is a registered sex offender, so it wouldn’t shock me if she’s turning to more of the right-leaning side to get him pardoned since she’s always defended him and even came after his victim at one point. I think it’s sad because she built the foundations on her platform on not only female empowerment, but also creating a safe web for LGBTQ+ members and now all that thrown out the window for people who truly don’t care about her and will throw her under the bus when it benefits them.

  3. As a PAST Nicki fan, I was so and still very disappointed in her it honestly hurt me to my core. And yet I don't understand why she would lose all of her die-hard fans for whatever she is doing now, and all the rumors of how hard she was to work with (with females) but could get along with males is so embarrassing and now very much true.

  4. Hey! Thank you so much for sharing this topic for this week. I can not believe the 180 degree turn Nicki Minaj did to her fans and the countless "barbs" that are still supporting her. Involving themselves in far right extremists activities. Clueless to the fact that these people will use them for their own propaganda and discard them after. They do not want their support, they want their followers and more specifically those gullible into believing that those who used to/still does enslave/hurt, are now anting to do good on their actions. That may not make sense but it is scary to see many minorities fall victim to these mind games, empty promises, and corruption. Do not even get me started on Minaj's partner, as a celebrity, you are using Google to research these people you are meeting. There is no way that never came up before they decide to get together and I feel bad for her, she has been hurt so many times and cotinues to endure this pain on live tv and social media.

  5. hey! I completely agree and this is such a great topic to share. I was never a big barb fan but I still supported her from a distance which she completely lost from me. It truly shows what kind of woman she wants to be presented as and its disappointing. I also recently found out about the type of person she chose to marry and so yeah I've completely cut off any minimal support she got from me.

  6. I've alwayssss loved Nicki. I've never really thought about her political views, but lately I feel like she has been destroying her image. I feel like before she was such an icon and sooo many people were die hard fans because they really felt she was such a good person to the core. But now I just think there are countless things that she has said and done publicly that so many people disapprove of.

  7. Stop it's so sick... I loved Nicki bad growing up, but the way she acts in drama and her political beliefs is just so sickening like if she act the way she did with those beliefs the amount of fans she'd have. Sometimes I also feel like she does things or says things to still keep herself known so she can still be the talk like how she once was.
