NFL MVP
One of my pop culture obsessions right now is the NFL MVP debate between Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford. These are the two players who up for debate to win the award. While I think both players had amazing seasons and are now both currently playing for a chance to make the Super Bowl next week. I don’t understand how people have Stafford over Drake. Drake Maye lead his team to a 14-3 versus Matt Stafford’s 12-5, stats wise the Matt does have Maye in passing yards and total touchdowns but those are the only major categories that he beats him, but the thing is if we compare total yards instead of just passing yards, Maye has more total than Stafford. When comparing other stats, Maye has Stafford beat by a pretty decent margin in all of them, for example, completion percentage: 72% (Maye) > 65% (Stafford), Rate: 113.5 (Maye) > 109.2 (Stafford), and QBR: 77.2 (Maye) > 71.1 (Stafford). Therefore I don’t really see how there is an argument for who should win.

I feel the stats definitely favor Maye as well, and it’s hard to ignore how well he led his team overall. I do get why people lean Stafford, though, especially since playoff performance and longevity tend to sway MVP narratives. If the Rams make a deeper run, I wouldn’t be surprised if that ends up tipping the award in Stafford’s favor. Are you a Pats fan?
