Mean Girls

The movie mean girls not only is just a funny movie but also represents how teen life can be shaped by trends, popularity, and social expectations. This movie mostly focuses on Highschool clicks (the plastics) who represent how the media and society define what is considered to be, cool, important, and attractive. Fashion and social rules play a huge part in the characters' lives showing how pop culture can affect one's identity. The burn book can be seen as a symbol of gossip culture and how rumors and social judgment can spread quickly which is very similar to modern day media. The movie also highlights how people try and fit in by copying what is considered to be popular even when it goes against their values. By exaggerating these behaviors Mean Girls make pop culture easy to recognize and criticize. Overall the move shapes teen relationships, self image, and power dynamics in a way that is relatable and also still relevant today

  1. I love Mean Girls! I think the original's message sticks harder with people as some teens act like this with others by putting down people or having groups that damage each other. While the tropes are exaggerated, it is very important for people to know. The gym scene was also very important and talking about women's issues and addressing how to get along.

  6. It is such a good movie! It is both entertaining and educational on the harsh social climates many females are exposed to in high school and how they can be detrimental to both image and self-esteem.
