How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorite rom-coms that have been made. It is an early 2000s about two really ambitious people who turn dating into a competition. Andie who is the woman main character is writing a article that tests if you can lose a guy in 10 days. She does all the things women do wrong in a relationship to try and drive him away. Ben who is the male main character is trying to prove that he can make any woman fall in love with him. This movie is a big deal to pop culture because it helped define the rom-com boom of the era and cemented Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey as genre icons. It captured a generational anxiety about dating as a strategy rather than sincerity. This is an idea that feels more relevant in this time of dating due to the dating apps.

This is a goated movie, I love Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson’s roles. I also love the scene when they are at his families house playing the game bs.
ReplyDeleteThis movie is so funny and nostalgic!
ReplyDeleteI recently watched this for the first time over break and I shared the same interpretation that you did and thought alike that the movie captures the doubt and strategy of people in relationships. I too think social apps in general can foster environments that people can use to their advantage if something goes wrong. Some people protect themselves from other people through strategy.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great movie i cant even count how many times i've watched it.
