How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days

 

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of my favorite rom-coms that have been made. It is an early 2000s about two really ambitious people who turn dating into a competition. Andie who is the woman main character is writing a article that tests if you can lose a guy in 10 days. She does all the things women do wrong in a relationship to try and drive him away. Ben who is the male main character is trying to prove that he can make any woman fall in love with him. This movie is a big deal to pop culture because it helped define the rom-com boom of the era and cemented Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey as genre icons. It captured a generational anxiety about dating as a strategy rather than sincerity. This is an idea that feels more relevant in this time of dating due to the dating apps.

    This is a goated movie, I love Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson’s roles. I also love the scene when they are at his families house playing the game bs.

    I recently watched this for the first time over break and I shared the same interpretation that you did and thought alike that the movie captures the doubt and strategy of people in relationships. I too think social apps in general can foster environments that people can use to their advantage if something goes wrong. Some people protect themselves from other people through strategy.

A Heated Rivalry or Wicked Misogyny?

 As someone who may hold bias to the extent that I refuse to watch Heated Rivalry, I think it's important to state that I've seen a couple of episodes, and the show just isn't for me. I've also watched both the Wicked movies starring Cynthia Erivo and Arianna Grande. Now you are probably wondering what these two media films have in common. Well, nothing to be exact, and I think that's the preface we must state first.  This isn't about the series/movies, it's about the co-stars, but first, here's a little context you may need to understand where I am coming from. Arianna Grande plays in the musical adaptation of Wicked and Wicked for Good, directed by Jon M. Chu. Intro/Post-Grad Plans!

Hi everyone, My name is Emily Webb, and I’m from Frederick, Maryland. I am a senior majoring in Digital Culture & Design with a double minor in Graphic Design and Social Media. I am currently finishing up my applications for Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs in Technology Education or Art Education. My goal is to become a secondary teacher for digital arts courses.
