Grey's Anatomy
One of my pop culture obsessions is Grey's Anatomy. Grey's Anatomy is a hospital show that follows Dr. Meredith Grey throughout her life in and out of the hospital she works at. While I enjoy the show for a multitude of reasons, one of my favorite aspects of the show is within the hidden meanings. Grey's Anatomy is the only show to have the longest running LGBTQ+ character on tv in Callie Torres who appeared in over 200 episodes. Grey's Anatomy has also featured multiple LGBTQ+ characters including transgender characters (doctors and patients) as well as characters who wear hijabs for their faith. Aside from characters, Grey's anatomy has touched on a lot of mental health issues including but not limiting to, substance abuse, PTSD, depression, crisis of faith, etc. The show does a great job with diversifying their cast and the storylines of the show to a greater depth than anything we may have seen before.
I also really love this show! I think one of the main reasons that I love this show so much is because of exactly what you said, there is someone for almost everyone to relate to. This show provides the type of role models that all different people can look up to, and I feel like that is very rare, and is really amazing to see.
ReplyDeleteI haven't yet watched this show, but I have seen shorts for it and it seems really interesting! I think its great how much it has done for media and women everywhere. I get a little queasy with medical shows but I have loved what clips I have seen! I should really give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this show, Meredith is such a strong protagonist for the plot. Especially because men are most likely seen as doctors and surgeons while people assume women to be nurses or aids. There is so many interesting ways you could integrate this show with the things we learned in class.
ReplyDeleteI also really love this show. I think this show is relatable and no matter where I start watching i'm immediately interested
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago I watched majority of this show and really liked it. Like you said the amount of representation and awareness the show brings allows a lot of people to relate to it personally
ReplyDeleteI love love love greys and I think your points are very valid I love that this show talks about so many realistic topics
ReplyDeleteI love Greys I have since i watched it the first time! I do like how the show has many different aspects of life and work so they can have work/life balance with events that could happen in someone's life who could potentially want to work in that environment. Women especially in this show go through a lot such as pregnancy, infant loss, divorce, death of family/spouse, custody battles.
