Degrassi
One popular show from pop culture that I have been invested in for a while is the show Degrassi. This show is most commonly known for its wide variety of different groups and real life situations of high schoolers. Throughout the show you're introduced to characters from different racial groups, cultural backgrounds and different sexual identities. You then see how these differences affect their everyday lives, relationships, and daily challenges in school. This show also has a large representation of the LGBTQ+ community such as lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning and shows both the struggles and experiences they face. The show also talks openly about mental health, learning disabilities and physical disabilities helping viewers understand that these issues are common and also important. Degrassi as a whole feels very realistic and relatable and at the same time sends many messages about how everyone's experiences matter and to be more open and accepting.
I've never seen this show, but after reading your blog, I'm definitely adding it to my watch list. It covers important topics, and from what you described, it seems like the show encourages empathy and understanding for people of all backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a few episodes of Degrassi but haven't watched the whole thing. I do like the representation the show portrayed, its important that shows and media try to break the stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ and mental health issues.
ReplyDeleteI have seen one or two episodes of this show, and I love how it portrays real-life issues in the world, focusing on students and the challenges of high school life. I also love how it talks about all different topics
