Baddies USA (Week 1)

 Something in pop culture that has had me in a chokehold but is also seen as an embarrassment is Baddies on Zeus Network. Baddies is basically a more current version of Bad Girls Club. When I was younger my mom absolutely loved watching BGC and I used to watch it with her. However, this show is extremely controversial to both those who watch and those who just know about it. For example, there is a cast member named Summer. She comes up with some of the most ignorant things a person could EVER say. For example, sooooo many people do not like her because during an altercation with another castmate Summer had told her she looked like Emmett Till, anyone with any common decency would NEVER speak on someone like that. Most people thought Zeus CEOs and production would have taken her off for such an unsympathetic comment but there was hardly any repercussions for her. There is also another cast mate on this season of Baddies that is Puerto Rican but looks very white, and she openly says the N word many times throughout the season. Well this leads her to get boo’ed on stage when she is performing her song, it also causes many cast members to feel disrespected and want to fight. As I said before, I love the drama and the fighting in the show however it can be incredibly embarrassing to see these grown women act so immature. Overall, even though the show itself can be very entertaining for its viewers it is still seen as an embarrassment.

    I used to be really invested in Baddies but the newer cast members like Gretchen and Summer when they first came on honestly turned me away especially after the Emmett Till comment. I still love the drama, but I agree some moments make the show harder to enjoy as a whole.

    YES YES YES !!!!!! I hate that they added that in the episode knowing how disrespectful that comment was, but was good that they showed Summer saying it to really show the real her on how disrespectful she is and how she genuinely doesn't care about anything. It's sad to see that Baddies still has Summer in the show even after that comment just because of how much drama she brings to the show.

    I believe Baddies at the beginning was just like every other reality tv show for pure entertainment but the occasional fight here and there. But now its so degrading (to young girls who watch the show that you have to be a certain girl to get to where you want to be in life) and definitely pushes a stereotype which is so annoying to those who are different. And it promotes a lot of bad behavior like: Fighting every 2 to 3 seconds instead of a conversation, or being a side chick to a married man and then eventually come out that your dating him and also pregnant with no ring, or doing drugs and drinking while pregnant the list can go on! Baddies is played out!

A Heated Rivalry or Wicked Misogyny?

 As someone who may hold bias to the extent that I refuse to watch Heated Rivalry, I think it's important to state that I've seen a couple of episodes, and the show just isn't for me. I've also watched both the Wicked movies starring Cynthia Erivo and Arianna Grande. Now you are probably wondering what these two media films have in common. Well, nothing to be exact, and I think that's the preface we must state first.  This isn't about the series/movies, it's about the co-stars, but first, here's a little context you may need to understand where I am coming from. Arianna Grande plays in the musical adaptation of Wicked and Wicked for Good, directed by Jon M. Chu. Intro/Post-Grad Plans!

Hi everyone, My name is Emily Webb, and I’m from Frederick, Maryland. I am a senior majoring in Digital Culture & Design with a double minor in Graphic Design and Social Media. I am currently finishing up my applications for Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) programs in Technology Education or Art Education. My goal is to become a secondary teacher for digital arts courses. I am excited about combining my love for digital media with teaching and helping students develop both creative and technical skills. Outside of school, I enjoy crafting with my Cricut.
